Our future and mission
Something happened on the way to True Artificial Intelligence. We realized we didn't know what we were talking about. None of those words, in fact, had anything like a meaning we understood: what is "intelligence"? what do you mean by "artificial"? what makes it "true"? The first question was the big one. We realized we never really had to think about what intelligence really was, what made it up, how we could explain it. Certainly not to make anything that resembled it.

So we scaled back our objectives. We took a part of what is done naturally by our beautiful brains, and then we tried to make the machine do that. This met with greater success; this is what the field of artificial intelligence (AI) became, for the most part. You have AI doing things for you every day now, just that we usually don't call it AI, since once it does something useful, we name it after that use. But it was once called AI.

People generally forgot about the dream, True Artificial Intelligence. It was too hard.

And that's where we come in. George Bernard Shaw said famously, "You see things; and you say, 'Why?' But I dream things that never were; and I say, 'Why not?'" So the question is, why not True Artificial Intelligence? It's too hard? It's been tried before? We don't know what we're even talking about?

OK, what if we had an idea? What "intelligence" is? How to make an "artificial" one? That was "true" enough so you could see it, like how some people don't know what art is, but when it's in right before your eyes...

This is the vision. There is no settling for less.
"An intelligence you can tell that it's actually intelligent: because it can explain itself to you. Not behavior outlined in templates, but with the chops to figure things out on its own. Grounded in logic, as much as a human mind can make sense of the world around us."

This is the "intelligence" in artificial intelligence.
